Best Southern Style Baked Beans Recipe

The un-official must have side dish of summer and Southern cook outs, sweet and savory baked beans.

Ingredients

Baked Beans

  • 53 oz. Pork and Beans with the tomato sauce (I used Van Camps)
  • 1/2 of a Vidalia Onion diced
  • 1 Large Green Bell Pepper finely diced
  • 1/2 lb. Bacon chopped into pieces

Baked Bean Sauce

  • 1/2 c Molasses
  • 1/4 c Yellow Mustard
  • 1 c Ketchup
  • 1/4 c White Vinegar
  • 2 tbs Worcestershire Sauce
  • Pinch of Kosher Salt
  • Cracked Black Pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 tsp Hot Sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a medium to large size mixing bowl, add all of the sauce ingredients and whisk to combine.
  • Next, add the pork and beans with the tomato sauce along withe the diced onion and green pepper.
  • Stir to combine it all together then pour it into a casserole baking dish.
  • Top with the topped bacon pieces then place into the oven and bake 1.5 to 2 hours, or until bacon pieces have cooked through as desired.
  • Remove from the oven and stir the baked beans to incorporate the bacon pieces.
  • Allow to cool 10 minutes before serving.
