Buttermilk Pie

Buttermilk pie is a custard like pie and and old fashioned favorite dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c Butter melted
  • 1.5 c Granulated Sugar
  • 3 Large Eggs room temperature
  • 3 tbs All Purpose Flour heaping tablespoons
  • 1 tbs Lemon Zest
  • 3 tbs Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 c Buttermilk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Pinch of Nutmeg
  • Deep Dish Pie Shell I used store bought

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350℉
  • Add sugar and melted butter to a medium mixing bowl and combine with a hand mixer. Add eggs and mix until creamy.
  • Add flour and mix to incorporate.
  • Add lemon zest, lemon juice, buttermilk, vanilla, and salt - mix to combine.
  • Add filling to pie shell.
  • If you like, brush the edges of the crust with egg wash (1 beaten egg mixed with a teaspoon of water or milk).
  • Sprinkle the top of the pie with a pinch of fresh ground nutmeg.
  • Bake 35-45 minutes until set.
  • Allow to cool completely before serving, at least 1 hour. Pie is best served at room temperature.
