Ingredients

  • 12-16 oz Fresh Blackberries about 2 cups , frozen will work thawed
  • 1 Stick Butter
  • 1 c Self Rising Flour
  • 1 c Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 c Sugar for batter + 2 tsp to coat berries

Instructions

  • Start with your fresh blackberries, rinsed and picked through to remove any stems added to a bowl. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of sugar over the berries and let them sit for half an hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Add 1 stick of butter to an 8 x 8 baking dish. Place dish with butter in the oven while it is preheating to melt the butter.
  • In a small mixing bowl combine 1 cup of flour with 1 cup of sugar. Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to 1 cup of milk. Add milk/vanilla to flour/sugar and whisk to combine into a batter.
  • Remove baking dish with melted butter from the oven. Slowly pour the batter into the center of the pan. Do not mix to combine with the melted butter. Just let everything mingle together on its own. Top with sugared blackberries.
  • Bake for 45 minutes.
