Simple Blackberry Cobbler Recipe
In this post I am sharing an old fashioned Simple Blackberry Cobbler Recipe.
One of my favorite memories growing up was picking summer blackberries. Those prickly vines grow everywhere and when the fruit is ripe, folks get to picking.
I recall being scratched more than a few times too while picking one of the favorite fruits of summer. It is such a reward and worth it for a bounty of those ripe blackberries.
Old Fashioned Blackberry Cobbler Recipe
What are some of your favorite recipes with blackberries? We love blackberry jam, blackberries and biscuits, blackberry grits and of course this cobbler.
Here’s what you’ll need to make this dessert:
- Fresh Blackberries (about 2 cups) , frozen will work thawed
- Butter
- Self Rising Flour
- Milk
- Vanilla
- 1 c Sugar for batter + 2 tsp to coat berries

Start with your fresh blackberries, rinsed and picked through to remove any stems added to a bowl. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of sugar over the berries and let them sit for half an hour.

Blackberry Cobbler with Fresh Berries

In a small mixing bowl combine 1 cup of flour with 1 cup of sugar. Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to 1 cup of milk. Add milk/vanilla to flour/sugar and whisk to combine into a batter.
Remove baking dish with melted butter from the oven. Slowly pour the batter into the center of the pan. Do not mix to combine with the melted butter. Just let everything mingle together on its own. Top with sugared blackberries.
Place into the 350 degree preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes.
Let stand 20 minutes before serve. Great warm or cold.

Doubled the recipe . Followed it exactly . It wasn’t cakey. It was gummy
I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the recipe. Did you use self-rising flour? Also, if you want double, I recommend cooking this in two pans, not one dish.
