Nanny’s Old Fashioned Blackberries and Biscuits
In this post I’m sharing the recipe for Nanny’s Old Fashioned Blackberries and Biscuits.
Y’all I have something special to share with you. This old fashioned blackberries and biscuits is a dish my grandmother (Nanny) would make for breakfast during blackberry season.
Back in those days, you couldn’t find berries in the store year round like you do now. Honestly, I don’t even know if berries were sold in stores back then. You had to go out and pick them yourself.
That’s why this was a special treat because it only came around once a year. When the blackberries ripened we would be out picking. Oh how I remember those briar bushes scratching my hands and arms.
Making this dish for breakfast this morning brought back so many memories. It was always one of my favorite meals growing up. That’s why I wanted to share it with y’all!
Fresh blackberries are made into a syrup type sauce and served over fresh buttermilk biscuits. It is truly delicious and I hope you’ll give it a try sometime.
When I was thinking of making this, I couldn’t think of what this dish is really called. I saw one recipe that was labeled stewed blackberries and biscuits. I believe we always just called it blackberries and biscuits. Did you ever have this growing up? If so, what did you call it? I would love to know.
So here’s how to make it……….

I WISH we had blackberries up here! I would love to be able to pick them–we do have raspberry but it's not the same.
I don't remember ANY berries besides some strawberries being sold in stores when I was kid. Of course that was Alaska in the 70s so….not the best person to answer your question. Ha!
This looks and sounds delightful. I love blackberries!!
It was always such a wonderful treat!
I'm not a big blackberry fan–my favorite berries are black raspberries–but the picture made my mouth water. I think I have to make this!
I love black raspberries too! This dish is from my childhood and blackberries were everywhere for the picking.
