Southern Skillet Fried Okra
OKRY!! Many people do call okra….okry. Regardless of what you call it, okra is a southern favorite. It’s an essential ingredient in gumbo and soups. My personal favorites are pickled okra and Fried Okra.
Okra is the edible seed pod from the okra plant. I once asked a question on the Julia’s Simply Southern Facebook Page – “What is one food you do not like?” – and was surprised that a lot of people do not like okra.
It’s one of those, you either love it or hate it kind of things. So this recipe is for all the okra lovers out there!!
Ingredients
- 1/2 c Vegetable Oil

Miz Helen
when the last pickings of okra are in my garden-I prepare them as if I am going to fry it and then I put it on a cookie sheet -on top of wax paper-and flash freeze it-it is just as good come the cold winter as it was when I first picked it
sorry-I forget to tell that once it is frozen-I use my vacuum sealer and seal it and keep in the freezer for as long as I want-have kept it for a year
Thanks for sharing with us Carolyn 🙂
That's a great idea Carolyn. Just curious, how many plants do you have?
Also good with diced tomato cooked in with it. Yummmm
These are going in my air fryer!
I haven't tried an air fryer yet. Let me know what you think 🙂
