Perfect Baked Potatoes Recipe

In this post I’ll be sharing my Perfect Baked Potatoes Recipe.

The perfect, fluffy baked potato is easy to achieve. Potatoes baked lovingly in the oven are so much better than those cooked in the microwave. Sorry but it’s true, I don’t care what anyone says.

Unless you’re starving and haven’t eaten for days, take time to properly bake it. Your patience of waiting for the potatoes to bake in the oven will be well worth it.

I’ll take mine with plenty of butter, salt and pepper please! Hubs enjoys his baked potato with sour cream and consumes the entire potato, skin and all. Potato skins are highly nutritious.

The first step in preparing the perfect baked potato is the potato itself. As far as I’m concerned baked potatoes can only be made with Russet potatoes.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Russet Potato, medium to large, washed
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Kosher Salt

Wash the potato and dock one side with the tines of a fork 3 times. Place the potato in a piece of aluminum foil. Sprinkle with kosher salt. Fold over the aluminum foil and roll up, twist each side and turn under.

Place the potato on oven rack, set temperature to 425 degrees. Bake for 90 minutes or until the potato is tender and gives when gently squeezed.

When the potato is done baking, remove from the oven. Slice the top open and gently squeeze the sides to open the potato for topping. Use a fork to fluff the potato and add your favorite toppings such as butter, sour cream, bacon, chives, salt or pepper.

Tasty baked potatoes are a classic side dish for many favorite meals like steak, prime rib or lobster. We almost always have baked potatoes with our steak dinner along with delicious asparagus.
