Cooked Cabbage Recipe

In this post I’ll be sharing an easy Cooked Cabbage Recipe.

This boiled cabbage recipe is among the favorite way to prepare cabbage. Next to my Southern Fried Cabbage recipe, this would be my next choice for preparing cabbage.

 

Ingredients

  • 1 Head of Cabbage
  • 1/2 c Chicken Stock
  • 3 tbs Butter
  • 1 tsp Bacon Fat a.k.a. Bacon Grease
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
  • 2 small slices of County Ham chopped 

Southern Boiled Cabbage Recipe

Start by cutting up your cabbage.

Add bacon fat and butter to a large pot and heat until the melted.

Add the cabbage and stir to coat the cabbage. Add the seasonings and chicken broth. Cover and cook over medium heat until desired tenderness 20-30 minutes.

Cooked Cabbage

Classic Southern Boiled Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1 Head of Cabbage
  • 1/2 c Chicken Stock
  • 3 tbs Butter
  • 1 tsp Bacon Fat a.k.a. Bacon Grease
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder

Instructions

  • Remove any outer leaves that are wilted or undesirable and discard then chop the cabbage.
  • Add the bacon fat and butter to a large pot and heat until the melted.
  • Add the cabbage and stir to coat the cabbage. Add the seasonings and chicken broth.
  • Cover and cook over medium heat until desired tenderness 20-30 minutes.
