Grilled asparagus is a perfect vegetable side for dinner. Seasoned and grilled tender but with a slight bit of crunch remaining…perfection!
When choosing asparagus for grilling, don’t get the wimpy think stalks. They will over cook and turn to mush. You’ll want the thicker stalks of asparagus when cooking it on the grill. Save the skinny stalks for salads.
Perfect Grilled Asparagus on a Gas Grill

Delicious Asparagus Side Dish
What if I don’t have olive oil? That’s okay, just coat the asparagus in cooking oil, such as peanut or vegetable. Coating the asparagus in oil accomplishes two things. One, it helps the seasoning to adhere to the stalks of asparagus. Two, it ensures that it doesn’t stick to the grill while cooking and protects it from the heat.
What other seasonings or flavors are good with asparagus? Your options are almost limitless. Other flavors that work well with asparagus include Parmesan cheese, garlic, lemon, butter, Creole or blackening seasonings. Truly, whatever suits your tastes will compliment the asparagus.
Hollandaise sauce is another great and popular option for asparagus or a Balsamic glaze drizzle.
More options for cooking asparagus? A quick saute works well and asparagus can be pickled. Oven roasting is okay if you watch it carefully. There is nothing worse than over-cooked asparagus.
